Atlantic COD ( Gadus morhua ) are found in cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean,
from Greenland to North Carolina in the west, and from the Bay of Biscay to the Arctic Ocean in the east.
They typically live near the seabed along rocky slopes and sandbanks at depths from 30 to 500 feet, and are known to migrate seasonally.
Historically, cod were a staple fish for many cultures, but populations have been severely depleted due to overfishing in many areas, leading to conservation concerns.
